Established in 1981 the Wilderness Program brings San Francisco's at-risk and low-income inner city youth together with police officers in a positive and challenging outdoor environment to share a common experience to build trust, understanding, teamwork and positive relationships.
The Program Strives to:
Build the bridge of understanding and foster positive relations between our officers, youth, parents, teachers and the community.
Dissolve any stereotypes that exist of police officers and inner city youth.
Develop leadership, communication skills, teamwork, trust, respect, and understanding.
Demonstrate the power and benefit of an honest effort.
Foster individual growth in the areas of self-confidence, self-respect and in ones abilities and possibilities.
Help inner city youth experience life outside their environment and gain an appreciation and respect for nature, society and the world around them.
The Program Provides:
- Backpacking
- Day Hikes
- River Rafting
- Kayaking
- Sailing
During the school year we provide services to youth from the San Francisco Unified School District.
During the summer we provide services to youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco and various community agencies.
